Avoiding Christian Charities....?

I'm looking to contribute money and be a foster parent to a child in need in a third world nation, but don't really know which charity to contribute to. I was a World Vision sponsor for years until I read an article about the fact that the children are being given religious instruction. I do not like the idea of indoctrinating already traumatized kids and even less the idea that part of my contribution would help build some tax exept office building for a religious organization. Does anyone know of a good charity that manages to get most of the money to the people in need and does not have any christian affiliation?
