Should I obtain an LLC for my event planning company?

I am in the process of starting my own event planning company and wanted to know, when I obtain my license should I add an LLC? I know all about sole proprietorship because I had a cleaning business a while back. I have been told that an LLC protects me, can I please get some advice on this subject.
