My 10 day old newborn is having trouble feeding?

well he has been very mucousy and you could hear it when he breaths sometimes, but i have been using the bulb syringe to clear it out! but everytime i want to feed him since last night he does not want to feed properly! he acts likes he is out of breath and then starts crying! but yet when i give him his pacifier he does take it without any problems. could it be there is something wrong with him or could it be he is just congested? and can any body who has gone thru this please give me advice?
