When do you find sig figs when you have multiple operations?

I'm a chemistry and physics teacher and a student asked a good question that I thought I knew the answer to. If you have a problem that is multiply and divide and add and subtract, when do you find sig figs? I thought it was at the end of each operation (end of addition, end of subtraction). Is this correct?
