PHYSICS - PROJECTILE MOTION HELP!?

Okay, so I have this really lame teacher who didn't explain this project and I have no idea what to do. I'm in grade 11 btw. Anyways, we have to design a "device" that shoots out a ping pong ball to a 2 foot target of cardboard laying on another desk. We have to use the formulas he gave us to make sure the ping pong ball hits the target accurately. What does he mean by device? Like a catapult or something?? I don't know what to do. He didn't even hand us out an instruction sheet but this project's worth a lot of marks!
